Orientale Pyroclastic Vent

A giant pit, 20 km wide and 2 km deep, was formed during a massive, explosive volcanic eruption. Ash was blown out more than 75 km distant. These ash deposits are likely enriched in hydrogen, helium, iron, and titanium. They not only provide a glimpse into the composition of the lunar interior but may serve as resources for future lunar explorers.
