Young Volcanics, Sosigenes Graben

Another example of very young volcanic flows revealed in LROC images is seen here in the bottom of a giant collapse pit. What happened when and how? First, a wide flat bottomed trough opened (left-to-right) then the large pits collapsed (lower left to upper right), and finally lava erupted in the bottom of the pits. Perhaps the first two events were related to large volumes of lava moving deep in the subsurface? This is a great place for astronauts to explore and return samples.
