Planned Outage for LROC Image Archive

May 5, 2010

Access to the LRO-L-LROC-2-EDR-V1.0 and LRO-L-LROC-3-CDR-V1.0 PDS archives will not be available for approximately 24 to 48 hours starting at 4:00 PM MST on 5 May 2010.

The LROC large capacity storage system will be shutdown during a planned building maintenance event. This outage only affects the PDS Archive Interface and PDS Image Data links from the LROC websites, but does not affect the Featured Image or Featured Image Browse Gallery links.

Thank you for your patience.

LROC Coordinates of Robotic Spacecraft

April 5, 2010

Repeatedly imaging anthropogenic targets on the Moon is an LROC team priority. As each image comes down we carefully search for the hardware (or impact crater). If the target is not in the image we try again next month, imaging on either side of the first observation. Additionally, we re-image targets once they are found to enable more precise estimates of their latitude and longitude coordinates, and provide more information concerning local morphology and albedo.

LROC Mass Storage Offline

February 22, 2010

Much of the previously posted LROC data is currently offline due to a problem with the primary LROC mass storage system. Because the volume is very large, inspecting and restoring all the files takes a long time. As data are restored they are being returned to the webpage. We hope to have the LROC webpage fully restored by the end of the day on February 24.
