The low albedo (dark) patterns may indicate pyroclastic (explosive) material that erupted over 3 billion years ago. Tobias Mayer G crater (7000 m diameter) is seen in the upper left in this west-to-east view; incidence angle 44°, slew angle 68°, phase angle 36°, NAC M1252131209LR [NASA/GSFC/Arizona State University]. Published on 08 Mar 2018 Bowl of Boulders in Steno Q Boulders collect in a small depression in the middle of the central peak of Steno Q crater. Some of these boulders are as big as houses! Image width is 1.5 km, portion of NAC controlled mosaic, illumination from the southeast [NASA/GSFC/Arizona State University]. Published on 12 Dec 2013 Amazing Orientale Peaks and Valleys Spectacular oblique view of the interior of the Orientale basin. NAC images M1124173129L & R, image centered at 24.23°S, 264.30°E, scene width is approximately 16 km and the cliff at center is 1.7 km high [NASA/GSFC/Arizona State University]. Published on 16 Jul 2013 Impact! The twin GRAIL spacecraft impacted the Moon on 17 December 2012, LROC was able to image the impact craters on 28 February 2013 showing them both to be about 5 meters in diameter. Upper panels show the area before the impact; lower panels after the impact. Arrows point to crater locations [NASA/GSFC/Arizona State University]. Published on 18 Mar 2013 Ebb and Flow Finale The two GRAIL spacecraft, Ebb and Flow, as imaged by the LROC NAC in lunar orbit at different times (A on 7th October, B on 8th October 2012) [NASA/GSFC/Arizona State University]. Published on 17 Dec 2012 On the Shore of the Bay of Rainbows A pair of small craters show different albedos within a spectacular ejecta display along the shore of Sinus Iridum (47.9°N, 31.7°W). NAC image M104726204L, incidence angle 65°, Sun is from the southwest, north is up, image is ~1.6 km across [NASA/GSFC/Arizona State University]. Published on 21 Sep 2011 Retracing the Steps of Apollo 15: Constellation Region of Interest The third and final EVA of Apollo 15 brought the astronauts to the edge of Hadley Rille (lower left). Disturbed regolith is observed along the crater rim at station 9 and at the edge of the rille at station 9A. Rover tracks are visible between stations 9A and 10. Image width is 520 m, 0.52 m/pixel, LROC NAC M111571816R [NASA/GSFC/Arizona State University]. Published on 16 Apr 2010 Malapert Massif Malapert massif (informal name) is thought to be a remnant of the South Pole - Aitken basin rim, which formed more than 4 billion years ago. More recently, this magnificent peak (lower left) was selected as an Artemis 3 candidate landing region. Image is 25 kilometers wide in the center, Narrow Angle Camera M1432398306LR (NASA/GSFC/Arizona State University). Published on 13 Mar 2023 Apollo 16 50th Anniversary: A New Landscape A spectacular, labeled view of the Apollo 16 landing site between North Ray and South Ray craters in the Descartes Highlands, a new landscape for the crew and an exciting set of LROC team products to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the mission landing. Published on 20 Apr 2022 Apollo 15: A Mission of Many Firsts Highlights of the Apollo 15 landing site, as seen in LROC NAC image M175252641R. This image has a resolution of 27 cm/px, and shows an area of 262 m by 186 m. The Lunar Module is clearly visible, as are many tracks from the Lunar Roving Vehicle (whose final resting place is just east of the edge of this image). The Apollo 15 astronauts left a number of science instruments at the site, including the Passive Seismometer Experiment (PSE), Lunar Ranging Retroreflector (LRRR), and others; these instruments were collectively part of the Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package (ALSEP). These landmarks and more are annotated in LROC's new Apollo 15 spatiotemporal map. Published on 30 Jul 2021 Prev 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Next ← Previous Next → Displaying Post 21 - 30 of 69 in total
