Deletion of LROC CDR Products

Important change to the LROC PDS archive -- effective immediately. New regulations from the Consolidation and Further Continuing Appropriations Act of 2013 (Public Law 113-6, Section 516) regarding Information Technology result in new lengthy purchase reviews for all NASA IT acquisitions. Due to these new reviews the LROC team has not yet been able to acquire the annual increase in disk storage required to sustain LROC operations and the full LROC PDS archive. To insure continued operations and data processing of EDR (raw image data) and RDR (maps and topography) products, the LROC Team will be deleting existing CDRs (Calibrated Data Record) products from the PDS repository.

This measure is temporary, and only LROC CDRs will be deleted. EDRs (raw data) and RDRs (map products) will continue to be available through the usual interfaces (Quickmap, WMS Lunaserv, PDS EDR, PDS RDR). After the disk space purchase is approved and the new hardware is installed the LROC team will regenerate the deleted CDR products (Volumes 1 through 14) using automated batch scripts (a relatively straightforward process). In the interim, users needing access to LROC CDR products should investigate the installation of the ISIS 3 software (free download) which is used to generate LROC NAC and WAC CDR products. We regret any inconvenience this situation may cause users of the CDRs.

Once the hardware is purchased and installed the LROC Team will announce a CDR reprocessing schedule.
