This morning the LRO Team at Goddard Space Flight Center commanded LRO to execute a 40-minute burn that placed LRO into lunar orbit!
At 6:26:26am EDT today the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter completed a 40-minute Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI) burn. LRO is now in a 220 km by 3100 km (137 mile by 1926 mile) orbit. Over the next 5 days LRO will perform 4 more small burns to adjust its orbit into a 30 km by 216 km (19 mile by 134 mile) elliptical orbit (Commissioning Phase Orbit).
