WAC South Pole

LROC images each pole every two hours to monitor the lighting environment. Due to the grazing Sun angles near the poles; large shadows make mapping the regions difficult. However, by selecting images taken during two one-month periods, when the Sun was highest on the horizon, polar mosaics were created with a minimum of shadows. The north polar mosaic used images acquired between 3/18/2011 and 4/19/2011, while the south polar mosaic used images taken between 9/21/2010 and 10/23/2010.
