Shane Thompson, LROC Science Operation Team

Shane is involved in the targeting operations and is a research analyst for the LROC instrument. Along with preparing to formulate the commands for the cameras pointing information to acquire images of lunar features based on scientific rationale, he also is helping to process the Apollo Flight Film data into a digital format for public access at a resolution comparable to the original film products. Shane received his Bachelors degree in geology from Arizona State and his Masters degree in Geology from the University of Nevada, Reno. He is currently an Athena science team member with the Mars Exploration Rovers and has been working with the rovers since August 2002. During his undergraduate years, Shane worked for the Planetary Geology Group on Aeolian- and volcanic-related projects for Mars research. That experience has led him on a path to the Moon working on LROC with the Space Exploration Resources group at ASU.
For fun, Shane likes snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking, and spending time with his wife, Karen. He also has a passion for frothy beverages of the hoppy nature and taking afternoon strolls along Palm Walk.
