Ernest Bowman-Cisneros, B.S. - Geology 1993, University of Texas at El Paso
Ernest has been interested in all things science and technology from a very young age, reading all that he could about the latest discoveries of the day and devouring all of the science fiction he could lay his hands on. He considers his current position in LROC as his ideal job, blending his interests in technology and science. He received his
B.S. in Geology from UTEP, then began attending classes at Northern Arizona
University in Flagstaff, working on a metamorphic petrology project in the Old Woman Mountains of California. Several years later, he started working for the Branch of Astrogeology within the U.S. Geological Survey, spending ten years working on various projects as part of Hugh Kieffers research group, as well as projects for the Astrogeology group. He had a break for three years in his federal service during which time he worked for the Physics Department at Duke University, learning about how physicists have very different mindsets from geologists. Ernest finally joined Mark Robinson's research group in 2005while Mark was at Northwestern University specifically to work on the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera project.
When hes not working on LROC, he spends all of his free time with his wonderful wife Amy and his two amazing boys, Zander and Ezra. Ernest and his family are all looking forward to going to Florida to see the LRO head off to the Moon!
